Portugal international Joao Cancelo said Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer a key part of the national team's plan despite having played an important role when he was at his peak.

Young forwards Jota Silva and Francisco Conceicao were on Friday called up to the Portugal squad for the first time alongside star Cristiano Ronaldo for friendlies ahead of Euro 2024.
Veteran stars Ronaldo, 39, and 41-year-old defender Pepe lead the 2016 European champions' lineup with the game against Sweden next Thursday in Guimaraes and away to Slovenia in Ljubljana on March 26.
However, Joao Cancelo does not consider Ronaldo to be at his best at the moment: "He is an important player and spent 15 years competing with Messi for the Ballon d'Or, but the peak of a footballer's career is between the ages of 25 and 32," he told 'RTP'.
"He is an important player for us, but the national team does not depend entirely on him," Cancelo concluded.
