Italian referee Daniele Orsato has been appointed by UEFA to referee next Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg clash between Chelsea and Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge in London.
Orsato will be joined by his compatriots Massimiliano Irrati (VAR) and Paolo Valericomo as Assistant Video Assistant Referee. Maurizio Mariani will be the fourth official and Ciro Carbone and Alessandro Giallatini will be the assistant referees.
Real Madrid start with a 2-0 lead from the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Chelsea will have to come from behind if they do not want to exit the competition.
The 47-year-old Orsato, who has been an international since 2010, has refereed five matches this season in Europe's top competition: Manchester City-Borussia Dortmund (2-1), Eintracht Frankfurt-Tottenham (0-0), RB Leipzig-Real Madrid (3-2), Porto-Atletico Madrid (2-1) and Bayern Munich-Paris Saint-Germain (2-0). He also refereed PSV Eindhoven-Sevilla (2-0) in the Europa League this term.
In the first leg of the 2019-20 Champions League round of 16 tie at the Bernabeu between Real Madrid and Manchester City (1-2), Orsato gave a penalty for Dani Carvajal's challenge on Sterling and shortly afterwards sent off Sergio Ramos for a straight red card for a tackle on Gabriel Jesus.
