Daniele Orsato to referee Manchester City vs Real Madrid

Daniele Orsato will referee the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final between Manchester City and Real Madrid. The Italian referee has already refereed this match twice. He was also present as fourth official in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu last year.

Italian Daniele Orsato has been appointed referee for Wednesday's Manchester City-Real Madrid Champions League quarter-final second leg. Orsato will be assisted on the sidelines by his compatriots Ciro Carbone and Alessandro Giallatini, the fourth official will be Maurizio Mariani and Massimiliano Irrati and Paolo Valeri will be in charge of the VAR.
Born in Montecchio Maggiore 48 years ago, he will referee both teams for the third time, although last season he was also the fourth official for Portugal's Artur Soares in the 1-1 draw in the first leg of the semi-final, which eventually went the Cityzens' way as they won the second leg 4-0.
In February 2020 he refereed the first leg of the last-16 tie at the Santiago Bernabeu, in which City won 2-1 with a comeback thanks to Brazil's Gabriel Jesus and Belgium's Kevin de Bruyne, and in May 2022 he refereed the historic semi-final match, also at the Bernabeu, in which Carlo Ancelotti's side won the tie in extra time in incredible fashion with a brace from Brazilian Rodrygo Goes and a penalty goal from France's Karim Benzema.
Orsato also refereed Real Madrid's wins over Malmoe (8-0), Galatasaray (0-1) and Chelsea (0-2) and defeats at RB Leipzig (3-2) and PSG (1-0). He has also officiated City in wins against Steaua (0-5), PSG (2-1) and Borussia Dortmund">Borussia Dortmund (2-1) and the defeat against Olympique Lyon (1-2). Wednesday's other game, Bayern Munich-Arsenal, will be refereed by Dutchman Danny Makkelie.
