Kevin De Bruyne will soon enter the final year of his contract at Manchester City. Now is a good time to renew his contract but also for the English club to cash in on a player who has been one of their best players in the club's golden era.
Somewhat surprisingly, the Belgian star took advantage of a pre-European Championship interview with the outlet 'HLN' to express his interest in Saudi Arabian football. "At my age, you have to be open to everything.
"It would be talking about astronomical amounts of money for this last stage of my career, it's something to think about," said the Manchester City player.
"For my wife to live an exotic adventure would be nice. I have to think about my future before I decide," continued the Belgian, who continued to favour a move to a Saudi Arabian club in the remainder of the interview.
"If I play there for two years I might be able to earn an incredible amount of money. I've had to play football for 15 years and for sure I haven't earned as much as I could get in two years there."
De Bruyne insisted on reflecting on a possible offer from a country where his former Manchester City teammate Riyad Mahrez is already playing: "I will have to reflect on what such a move could mean."
He returned to a very high level despite being injured for several months of the 2023/24 season. The Belgian playmaker finished the season with 26 appearances, netting six goals and assisting 17 times.
