After the defeat at home to Villarreal, Xavi Hernandez announced in advance that he would be stepping down on 30 June despite having one more season left on his contract. Since then, there has been a succession of names of potential occupants of the bench. Roberto de Zerbi, Hansi Flick and Simone Inzaghi are the main ones.
But now, Deco does not rule out staying. He gave an interview to the programme 'Tot Costa', on 'Catalunya Radio', a preview of which was published on Wednesday evening. In his brief statements, it is clear that he would be happy for the coach to continue depending on the circumstances near the end of the campaign.
"We are not making any decisions about the future coach because it is early days and we have a lot of things ahead of us. If something changes, I won't say we can't raise it. We have nothing against him. It is not a decision that has been taken by the club or the sporting management. At the moment, there is no such possibility; if it happens, we will discuss it," he commented.
Since confirming his resignation Xavi has come to reaffirm his decision even in the hypothetical event that he wins the Champions League. If, after all, he decides to continue at Barcelona and Joan Laporta's leadership approves, he will have to do nothing more than talk to the bosses at Montjuic, as his contract runs out in 2025 and should not be touched.
