Barcelona sporting director Deco has ruled out the possibility of extending Hansi Flick's contract shortly. In an interview with Sport, excerpts of which were published on Wednesday afternoon, the former midfielder was asked directly whether a contract renewal for the German coach was on the table. His response suggested that it may still be too early to consider such a move.

Flick's current deal runs until 30 June 2026, meaning he has this season and the next one fully guaranteed. Hansi Flick's Barcelona has reignited excitement among the Blaugrana faithful in a way that has not been seen for years.
His style of play—bold, physically intense, and built around a high defensive line that forces opponents into offside positions—is not only aesthetically appealing but also highly effective. Under his leadership, the Catalans have secured direct qualification for the Champions League round of 16, lifted the Spanish Super Cup, remain in the La Liga title race, and are set to face Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
Despite this strong run, Deco believes it is too soon to discuss a new deal for the German coach. In his conversation with Sport, the former midfielder acknowledged the fans' excitement but reminded them that football is a game of ups and downs. He also pointed out that Flick remains under contract until June 2026.
"We move too fast here, don't we? One moment, it’s euphoria; the next, it’s despair. Of course, when things are going well, there have been other coaches who have had their contracts extended. That's the natural course of a successful project," Deco explained. His remarks also referenced a period earlier in the season when Flick's tactical approach led to some setbacks, although the team has since recovered.
"We've won a trophy, we're playing well, and the feeling around the club is positive. That's the most important thing—it's what the fans want and what Barcelona members need. We're happy with the work being done day by day. From there, if the time comes to discuss a renewal, it will happen. But right now, for neither him nor us, is this a priority," he concluded.
