Depay bids farewell to Atletico with bittersweet message

Memphis Depay leaves Atletico Madrid on 30 June despite having a contract until 2025, the player confirmed on social media. He addressed the fans at the Metropolitano to thank them for their support during this season and a half and acknowledge that his performance could have been better.
"Not easy to say how I feel about writing this message because I feel that things could’ve been very different. Maybe it’s better to keep that conversation for another time," Depay began.
"To Atletico, my teammates, the staff and specially the fans, I wanna thank you for the energy and support I’ve experienced in my time being a Atleti player I keep the good memories close to my heart," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
He has played 40 competitive matches for Atletico, but only 14 of them as a starter, scoring 13 goals and providing two assists. Memphis Depay faces the transfer market with a lot of possibilities as he is a free agent and has a market value of 22.3 million euros.
With experience in the Eredivisie, Premier League, Ligue 1 and La Liga, he has only Serie A and Bundesliga left to add to his record in the big leagues.
