France coach Didier Deschamps confirmed that Real Madrid have written to the French Football Federation (FFF) to indicate that they will not release their players for the Paris Olympics.
"I knew some time ago that they had sent that letter. It's a decision for the club, and if they say no, it's no," said the coach.
That decision closes the doors of the Olympic team to players who had expressed a desire to play in the Olympic Games, such as midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, but it could also affect Kylian Mbappe if he signs for Madrid.
The 25-year-old had shown his desire to play the Olympic Games in his hometown although in his latest statements on the matter, he had been less forceful about it.
Mbappe announced to PSG a few weeks ago that he will not remain at the French club at the end of his contract on 30 June and is likely to sign for Real Madrid.
