On Sunday, however, there was an unexpected change. Coach Dorival Junior confirmed that Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson had been ruled out through injury due to a fractured eye socket sustained in the match against Tottenham. He will be replaced by Sao Paulo goalkeeper Rafael.
In addition, CONMEBOL itself also decided to increase the number of players who can be called up to the final lists to three more, with a deadline for final notification until 15 June. As a result, the Brazilian coach called up Bremer (Juventus), Ederson (Atalanta) and Pepe (Porto).
"All athletes, regardless of when they are called up, arrive on equal terms to compete and fight for a place in the starting line-up," Dorival said in the statement.
