Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez spoke about his operation in an interview for 'DSports': "I was playing with pain and injections for 8 months. I had to make the decision to have surgery, it was the best”.
“I was harming the team and didn't want to expose myself”, explained the midfielder about his inability to give 100% in every game. The Argentinian has had groin problems since 2023 which have prevented him from carrying out his duties comfortably.
Enzo Fernandez played his last game on 23 April against Arsenal, a match in which his team lost by 5 goals to 0. However, he is not expected to return to the field of play for the remainder of the club season.
The reality of the results is that the Londoners have not lost since the Argentinian was forced off with injury. On the other hand, Enzo has been an indispensable part of Mauricio Pochettino's schemes and it would be too much of an advantage to think that Chelsea's improvement has been due to his absence.
The 'Albiceleste' player has taken part in 40 games this season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists. His numbers with Chelsea will remain like this, as he will not play any more this season for the 'Blues', but in Argentina it is thought that he could be recovered for the Copa America next summer.
