According to 'COPE', Espanyol were on the verge of not playing the match against Barcelona due to the recent incorporation of Robert Lewandowski into the squad.
It all started when Barca revealed that their player Lewandowski will be able to play in the derby, as he received a precautionary measure.
The Polish striker received a three-match ban for a red card. However, he was not suspended for the card, but for a subsequent gesture. He touched his nose several times in reference to the referee.
As a result, Espanyol issued an official statement showing their dissatisfaction with a decision that was taken less than 24 hours before the match and considered not playing it.
Nevertheless, according to 'Mundo Deportivo', Joan Laporta contacted the other team and asked them to reconsider their decision.
