UEFA's 55 member associations will receive €935 million from the proceeds of Euro 2024 in Germany over the next four years, plus €331 million in prize money and €240 million for clubs who loaned players for the tournament won by Spain.
UEFA published its report on UEFA EURO 2024 on Tuesday, calling the competition "a resounding success" and allowing a record 935 million to be redistributed among its 55 member associations through the ‘Hat Trick’ programme.
The Hat Trick programme was set up by UEFA in 2004 to ensure that revenue from the men's EURO goes back to their associations to invest in long-term development projects, such as building infrastructure, training centres and pitches, or in initiatives such as anti-fixing, club licensing, elite youth player development, grassroots and women's football, good governance, refereeing and social responsibility.
Following the EURO, up to 190 clubs and 21 regional associations in Germany have received €7 million in financial support for sustainability projects through the EURO 2024 climate fund.
The UEFA report shows that the EURO had a cumulative live audience of 5.2 billion and 4.5 billion views on social media. The total number of spectators at the matches was 2.7 million and 81% of them used sustainable transport to get to the stadiums.
"UEFA was determined to make sustainability central to the organisation of EURO 2024. Free and discounted public transport systems helped 81% of spectators to use environmentally friendly means of transport to reach the stadiums, each committed to the principles of the circular economy: reuse, reduce, recycle and recycle waste," the document states.
It also highlights that UEFA invested €32 million in the implementation of the tournament's environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy, including the recruitment of a team of 500 volunteers and sustainability managers at each of the ten venues.
