Barcelona experienced a roller coaster ride last season with Xavi Hernandez at the helm. First, he announced he was leaving at the end of the season, then there was a step back and he was finally sacked by Joan Laporta. Despite this, the coach holds no grudge against the club.
Currently without a team and awaiting a new project, he spoke to FIFA about the new Club World Cup, in which Barcelona will not be present, and about Leo Messi, who was his teammate for many years.
"The player I enjoy the most is still Leo, Leo Messi. I enjoy watching Barcelona win, I enjoy many footballers in the world. But for me, Messi is still the best in the world," he said.
Of the Club World Cup he said it will be "exciting" and "a great opportunity" for different clubs around the world, beyond the Europeans. "I think it's going to be a before and after this competition. Wonderful for any club in the world," he added. Xavi Hernandez holds no grudge against the Barcelona board.
