Signed from Monaco in the summer of 2015 for a huge fee at the time - 60 million euros - Anthony Martial has played for almost a decade at a Manchester United side that has been waiting for the Frenchman to break through.
He was 19 when he arrived at Old Trafford and ended his time at the club a couple of months ago at the age of 28. At that time, the Red Devils' patience with the Frenchman was not rewarded as expected. Martial only managed to shine at times for the English side, his performances falling far short of expectations.
Now, after nine seasons as a United player, Martial is looking for a new adventure. Brazil, with Flamengo as his standard-bearer, came knocking on his door, but European football remains a priority for a Frenchman who is about to take a back seat in the European showcase.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the player is very close to signing for AEK Athens. The Greek side are already in advanced talks with Martial and are confident of securing a move that, from their point of view, would be historic.
The 'Daily Mail' reports that the contract with which the Greeks are trying to convince Martial would be the biggest in AEK's history, with the Athenians offering him around three million euros per season for the next three seasons.
