Gareth Southgate decided to step down as England manager after losing their second successive European Championship final last Sunday against Spain, in which the Three Lions lost 1-2 to Luis de la Fuente's men to see yet another trophy slip through their fingers.
As a result, the Football Association are already considering replacements for the 53-year-old, who was in charge of 102 competitive games for England. However, they don't want to hire just anyone for the job as they want someone who will make history for their national team.
According to 'The Independent', the FA are willing to wait for Pep Guardiola, who has already expressed his desire to coach a national team in interviews, to finish his contract with Manchester City in 2025. The Spaniard has won everything there is to win as a club manager, all that remains is to coach a country.
The FA intend to hire an interim coach for 2024 should they reach an agreement with Guardiola to appoint him as the new manager in the summer of 2025. They want the Spanish boss in charge because of his good reputation in England, where he has won 17 trophies with the Sky Blues.
