Aziz Yildirim, who is one of the candidates to lead Fenerbahce, has offered Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, who is currently without a team, to coach the club next season.
"I propose to the current board of the club that we talk together with Mourinho. Let's go together to convince him. Let him be the new coach of the team, no matter who wins the meeting on 9 June," Yildrimin told a press conference.
The challenger said he has already met in person with the Portuguese manager but denied that they had discussed the financial terms of a possible deal. "I told him: 'Fenerbahce needs you and you need Fenerbahce'," said Yildirim, who previously presided over the Turkish side between 1998 and 2018.
According to 'Sporx' Yildirim has promised the former Real Madrid coach a budget of 100 million euros to put together a team. Yildirim said that Fenerbahce should compete with great coaches and a great team.
Fenerbahce, who are currently second in the Turkish Super League, are the club with the most wins in the history of the domestic competition ahead of Galatasaray (24) and Besiktas (21) but they have not won the title for ten years, which has generated a lot of unrest among fans.
