On Friday, Footballers union FIFPRO claimed that the decisions passed by FIFA with regards to the calendar of the games in men's and women's football "are short-sighted and do not look out for players' helath or performances".
FIFPRO believe that such decisions "could have serious consequences and aggrevate the pressure on players' well-being and work".
"Despite the collective understanding FIFPRO came to with FIFA last week, which would mean having negotiations together about the Calendar of International Matches (CIM) before FIFA's Congress in March 2023, these decisions were taken unilaterally without being properly consulted, and a lot less agreement with the players", the union added in a press note.
"This Friday's announcements about a new format for the Club World Cup in 2025, new ideas for men and women's CIM after 2024 and 2023 respectively, including the extension of the current women's CIM until 2024725 - which will cause a serious congestion of games during the year of the Olympic Games - have created new conditions which increase even more then workload on players and their clubs", FIFPRO underlines.
"Once again, the decisions to stagger the competitions without applying adecuate protection are short-sighted and do not take into account players' health and performance", they summarised.
