Fiorentina targeting the silverware that has eluded them for two seasons

Fiorentina are facing a difficult season. After two years of coming close to winning titles at both domestic and European level, they bid farewell to one of the masterminds of this successful two years, Vincenzo Italiano, to begin the era of Raffaele Palladino, who had been working at Monza since September 2022 and is now committed to the 'Viola' until 2026.

The domino effect on the bench caused by Thiago Motta's recruitment at Juventus has been mirrored in Florence. Fiorentina had to bid farewell to Vincenzo Italiano, attracted by Champions League side Bologna, and opted for Monza's Raffaele Paladino to take his place. The thing is that, with this change in the dugout, a three-year period in which the 'Viola' trophy cabinet should have picked up some silverware has come to an end.
Under his previous coaching staff, the project reached two Conference League finals in a row and one Coppa final with two semi-finals in between. The first continental disappointment, dating back to June 2023, came against David Moyes' West Ham United, who won 2-1. The last was in May of this year, when Jose Luis Mendilibar's Olympiacos claimed a narrow win over the Italian side in the final.
In the Coppa, Atalanta knocked out the cradle of the Renaissance 4-2 on aggregate in the most recent campaign. In the run-up, the Tuscan pride reached the final stage for the trophy, but Inter Milan won with a Lautaro Martinez brace. This happened in 2023; in 2022, again in the semi-finals, Fiore missed out on advancing with a 3-0 defeat to Juventus.
Thus, the club has come within a game or two of returning some honour to trophy cabinets that have probably been tidied up in case the occasion arose, but which have ended up remaining as they have for many seasons now.
