Barcelona announced the hiring of Hansi Flick as their new coach on Wednesday. The former Bayern Munich and German national team coach comes in to replace the sacked Xavi Hernandez and signs until 30 June 2026. After the news, which was an open secret, his first impressions as coach of the Catalan side were heard.
Flick praised the club, which he described as "incredible", and emphasised that the footballing idea that has historically accompanied the club fits in perfectly with his own: "The philosophy they have fits in very well with mine. Ball possession and attacking football. Those are the aspects I like the most."
The new coach also referred to the importance of the academy in the squad: "Barcelona have one of the best academies in the world. In the first team, there is a good mix of experienced players and talented young players. We have to work so that they can improve. This is our job together with Deco and president Laporta. For me, teamwork is very important."
Moreover, Flick said that titles are something he has in mind right now and left a message for the fans: "I won some titles with Bayern Munich and I would like to continue on that path at Barcelona.
"We can achieve a lot together and this is the most important thing. I'm really looking forward to starting this journey with you. Your support is very important and together we can achieve a lot with this amazing team," he concluded.
