Bayer Leverkusen CEO Carro said that he is not able to promise fans that Florian Wirtz won't be sold to rivals Bayern Munich in the future. The Bavarians have the tendency to sign players from their rivals in the Bundesliga, and Leverkusen fans fear the same could happen to Wirtz.

Bayern Munich have the tendency to buy players from Bundesliga teams as a means to strengthen their squad, while also weakening their league rivals. Lewandowski, Gotze, Hummels, Goretzka, Pavard, Sabitzer, Upamecano, Guerreiro have been some of the most notorious and recent ones in the Bundesliga.
Bayer Leverkusen fans now fear that the same outcome awaits for their star player Florian Wirtz. The 21-year-old has been lighting up the German league in the past couple of seasons, which have earned him the under-21 player of the season award in the 2021/2022 season.
When asked on the likelihood of Wirtz following the same pattern, Club CEO Carro admitted that he "can't promise anything" as "you never know in football". His words are far from reassuring for the supporters, who could potentially see themselves losing a key player after an historic season last year with Xabi Alonso.
“But we don’t want to sell our best players to direct competitors, of course… it’s what we also told Jonathan Tah last summer," added Carro. Bayern Munich will be eager to snatch star players from their rivals, especially after having missed out on the Bundesliga for the first time in 11 years last season with Thomas Tuchel at the lead.
Florian Wirtz has kicked off the 2024/2025 season in the same way he left off the previous one. The German international currently counts 7G/A in 10 appearances for Leverkusen thus far, as Bayern - and other giants around Europe - monitor his situation.
