Arsenal were dealt a blow when two months ago they announced that the club's sporting director Edu Gaspar, who was a key player in the Gunners' project, was leaving the club to join a sports conglomerate of tycoon Evangelos Marinakis.
Since then the Emirates Stadium outfit have been working to find a sporting director who fits the London club's aspirations and line of work, and it seems they have finally found him.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, former Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta is the Gunners' top candidate to fill the gap left by Edu's departure.
Berta left the 'Colchoneros' in January 2025, and it is very likely that his new destination will be Arsenal. Although negotiations are advanced, there is no agreement yet between the club and the Spaniard.
