Benjamin Mendy is still trying to make sense of his career after the trial for an alleged rape from which he was finally acquitted. Even this did not help him regain his job at Manchester City, who suspended him as soon as the case broke that even led to Mendy spending several months in prison.
The French full-back, who went 763 days without playing a game, had to redirect his career in France and signed for Lorient, where he played in the 2023-24 season. The team was relegated and Benjamin Mendy disappeared from the team's line-up and has not been in action so far this season.
Following this new hiatus, Zurich have offered to take in a 10-time France international who is still only 30 years old. Mendy, who came through the ranks at Le Havre, played for Olympique Marseille and Monaco before moving to Manchester City.
Nor did he ever have much continuity at the Cityzens, as he was just beginning to find it when he was accused of rape and the episode that changed his career forever began.
Ancillo Canepa, president of his new club, welcomed him and was delighted with the signing: "We are very happy and also quite proud to have been able to sign a player of such a high calibre. He will be an important support, especially for our young players".
Benjamin Mendy's debut is scheduled for Saturday 15th February against Sion. However, it remains to be seen whether the former Sky Blue player's fitness is good after so long on the sidelines.
