Saying goodbye to life is possibly one of the hardest moments a human being can go through. It gives you time to say goodbye to your loved ones, but you also know that everything has an expiry date, and that it is getting closer and closer.
The protagonist of this story is Sven-Goran Eriksson. The former coach of Roma, Sampdoria, Lazio and the English national team, among many other teams, announced last January that he had terminal pancreatic cancer and that he had at most a year to live.
'Amazon' wanted to make a documentary about Eriksson and in it, the Swedish coach wanted to say goodbye in his beloved Sunne, in Sweden, where he will rest after his death: "I always thought it was a great place to rest. Here the ashes can be thrown in the water. We feel at home here.
The Swede recalls how he found out about it all: "One day I woke up and felt dizzy. Yes, it's cancer I have and that's it. The medicine, we don't know what's going to happen. I'm a bit scared. It takes time, a little time before you can accept it. I'm still here.
"I had a good life. I think we are all afraid of the day we die, but life is also about death. You have to learn to accept it for what it is. Hopefully, in the end people will say he was a good man, but not everyone will say that," recounts a departing Eriksson.
"I hope they remember me as a positive guy who tried to do everything he could. No regrets, smile. Thanks for everything, coaches, players, fans. It's been fantastic. Take care of yourself and take care of your life. And live it, goodbye," he said.
