Erling Haaland arrived at Manchester City last season as the missing piece of the Sky Blues' project, leading them to a historic treble that had only ever been achieved by Manchester United. However, the Red Devils' recent fortunes could have been very different in recent years.
The Old Trafford outfit have been overshadowed by the Cityzens in recent years, partly because they had the chance a few years ago to snatch Manchester City's current star from their grasp and squandered it, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed in an interview with "The Overlap".
The former Manchester United boss revealed that in the summer of 2018 he called the Red Devils board to urge them to sign Erling Haaland, as the Norwegian manager had the Sky Blues' star player under his command when he was at the helm of Molde.
"The summer before I got to Man United I rang them and said: you’ve got to sign Erling Haaland. He will be top. Absolutely top class. That was June, July 2018… they said: nah, we’ve got enough reports," he claimed.
What the United board did not know is that Solskjaer would be right and that, after the Norwegian striker spent a season at Borussia Dortmund">Borussia Dortmund, he would sign for Manchester City and become one of the best strikers in world football.
