Getafe player Gaston Alvarez had almost signed for Al-Qadsiah, where former Madrid player Nacho Fernandez plays. However, a law that forbids a couple to live together without being married has kept him away from Arabia. Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, resides in the country despite not complying with this rule.

Al-Qadsiah are willing to pay around 14 million euros for Gaston Alvarez. The Uruguayan would line up in defence alongside Nacho Fernandez in a team coached by Michel. The deal was closed and the signing seemed to be a reality, but an extra-sporting issue is overly complicating the move.
The centre-back is not married to his partner, with whom he intends to live in Saudi Arabia if he joins the team that wants him. However, a law in the Asian country prohibits a man and a woman living together without marriage, although there are some exceptions.
Cristiano Ronaldo faced the same problem. There is no legally formalised relationship between him and Georgina as required in the country, but the Portuguese player can live with his partner without any problem. The state allowed the Al-Nassr player to live with his family in Riyadh.
Getafe are trying to complete a signing that has faltered for an unexpected reason. Pending completion, Jose Bordalass' men will have to play in Bilbao with 18 players, three of them goalkeepers.
