Time stood still at the Montjuic Stadium on Sunday. Gavi, who returned to the Barcelona squad 348 days later, came on in the 83rd minute and the whole stadium gave the player a tremendous ovation.
Already when he came on for the first warm-up exercises, the stands went wild and broke into applause and cheers for a player who could not help but smile. His last game for Barcelona was on 7th November 2023 in the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk. It was later, during the international break, that he suffered his severe knee injury.
As if that were not enough, Pedri, for whom he entered the field, handed the captain's armband to No.6 in what was one of the most touching gestures of the match. Both his teammates and opponents gave him a round of applause the moment he took the field.
It was only seven minutes plus the added time, but Gavi showed the grit he has and has never lost. He fought for several balls and even dared to step into the opponent's box. Now, the midfielder has to get back into the rhythm of competition after almost a year which has been a real ordeal for him
