Spain international Gavi underwent surgery on Tuesday morning in a Barcelona hospital after suffering a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
"Gavi had a successful surgery on his torn right knee anterior cruciate ligament plus a meniscus suture today. Supervised by the Club's Medical Services, Doctor Joan Carles Monllau performed the intervention at Barcelona Hospital," FC Barcelona wrote on Twitter.
The 19-year-old has established himself as a key figure both for Barcelona and the Spanish national team over the past two years after coming through his club's La Masia youth academy. However, he will be out of action for eight months, meaning he is ruled out for the rest of the season.
His absence from Euro 2024, already feared and half-confirmed when the verdict on his injury came in, has now been confirmed.
