Girona coach Michel Sanchez told Monday's press conference ahead of the visit of Villarreal that it would not be "a disappointment" if the team fail to finish second in La Liga and play in the Spanish Super Cup once the team are once again dependent on Barcelona to do so.
Michel said that it is "a disappointment to have one thing in your hand and for the team not to fight for it" but the team "did everything possible" to win and did not stop fighting in Friday's 2-2 draw with Alaves at Mendizorroza.
The coach was "very proud" of the Girona players because they have made history and "an incredible season" although he is convinced that he can repeat next campaign and said that this will be their objective.
He also explained that it would be "very important" to beat Villarreal to reach 78 points and achieve the maximum score of the 21st century for a club that is not Real Madrid, Barcelona or Atletico Madrid.
Michel added that he has not seen any player who is "thinking about other things or that the season is over" and that his players are "looking forward to playing" against Villarreal.
