Australia found themselves unexpectedly ahead after just 9 minutes after Goodwin fired in an easy cross. This forced France into action and their efforts showed, as they were soon back into it with a Rabiot goal. Giroud then completed the comeback five minutes later after simply tapping home off the cross.
The second half brought yet more French dominance, and their efforts were rewarded with an Mbappe header, followed by another Giroud goal. This was enough to give 'Les Bleus' the breathing space they deserved and see them hold on for their first victory of the 2022 World Cup.
This result leaves reigning champions France in pole position in Group D, who go up against Denmark next. As for Australia, they prop-up last spot in the group, as they need to find points against Tunisia to keep their hopes alive.
