Yokohama F Marinos were leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Anderson Lopes and Ko Matsubara. The Brazilian opened the scoring in the 27th minute and ten minutes later, the Japanese extended their lead.
But Manchester City did not rest on their laurels. John Stones and Julian Alvarez netted twice to equalise before half-time. The second half started 2-2 but it took just seven minutes for Erling Haaland to score after replacing the World Cup winner.
It was just one day to the day since the anniversary of his first goal for Pep Guardiola's side against Bayern Munich. "Where it all began... A year ago today, my first game and first goal," he wrote on Twitter.
Rodri, who had a superb season with the Sky Blues in 2023, tried his luck from the edge of the box and goalkeeper Ichimori was unable to deny his effort. The Spaniard scored Manchester City's fourth goal.
