Griezmann makes 100th Champions League appearance

Antoine Griezmann went down in Champions League history on Tuesday. The Atletico Madrid player enjoyed his 100th night in Europe's top competition in Prague against Sparta. Third in the all-time table of players with the most Champions League appearances in the history of Atletico Madrid with 78, the player from Mâcon has also become one of only four French players to have reached 100 appearances in the continent's premier competition.
Griezmann's 78 appearances as a ‘Colchonero’ have been combined with a first taste of the competition in six games for Real Sociedad and 16 games played as a Barcelona player in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Until this centenary match in the Czech capital, the ‘Little Prince’ had 37 goals and 12 assists. Shortly after taking the field, however, he increased his tally in front of goal to 38 strikes.
With Real Sociedad, the striker was only able to salvage one draw and accumulated 5 defeats without scoring or assisting. At Barcelona, Griezmann had nine wins, four draws and three defeats, scoring four goals. With Atletico Madrid, therefore, the Frenchman has his best records. He has been present in 78 games with the one on Tuesday and before facing Sparta he had 37 wins, 19 draws and 21 defeats. His goals and assists before this matchday were 33 goals and 12 assists.
Although you would expect Griezmann to have a better record in his first spell as a ‘Colchonero’, his two stints under Cholo Simeone show similar figures. Tuesday's game is his 30th since his return from Barcelona and so far he has scored 12 goals (0.41) and provided six assists (0.2). In his first 48 games as an Atletico player he has scored 21 goals (0.44) and also assisted 6 times (0.13).
