Alejandro Grimaldo was in the spotlight last summer as he only had one year left on his contract with Benfica. Barcelona were interested in the Spanish defender and decided to keep an eye on his situation.
Nonetheless, the Catalan side finally ruled him out because Jordi Alba stayed in the squad and Alejandro Balde was having impressive performances. But they expected to be able to negotiate his transfer in the next summer transfer window.
However, Bayer Leverkusen have gone ahead and reached an agreement with the Spaniard to join next season. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, both parties will sign the new contract in the near future.
The same media outlet reports that the medical tests have been completed. As a result, the 27-year-old will soon be part of Xabi Alonso's squad and will play in the Bundesliga.
