Omar Marmoush was the hero of Manchester City's 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle, but he was not the only big name. Erling Haaland also stole the limelight, though not for his goals, as he usually does, but for an injury that sent shivers down the spine of the fans.
With the Champions League return leg against Real Madrid just around the corner, the striker went to ground and complained about his right knee after a bad turn. With the game already settled in the 88th minute, Pep Guardiola substituted him, although the coach himself was the first to reassure the fans about his physical condition.
"When he was on the ground, everyone was scared. He got up and walked around, smiling as usual. I didn't speak to him, but the doctors didn't come with bad news. Hopefully he will be fine for Madrid," said the coach after the game.
These words of calm were matched by Haaland's post on his Instagram account. With much of the City fanbase on edge, the Norwegian took the heat off the injury by posting a picture of himself with a half-eaten piece of meat in his hand. "Small feast after the game," he added to an image that conveys anything but concern for his condition.
