Pep Guardiola has spoken ahead of Manchester City's friendly against Chelsea at the Ohio Stadium on Saturday 3 August and has backed the new Blues boss for whom he is very happy and expects him to be very successful in his career.
“I am really pleased. We spent a special one year, but more when he was in the second team, he is an incredibly lovely person, him and his family. He did a really good job at Leicester. I wish him all the best because he deserves it. Nice people deserve the best."
“As a manager to have success, the most important thing is you must believe in something deeply and no matter the results, stick with the idea. That’s why he believes in what he does. He will have success - I don’t know how long, but he will have it," concluded Guardiola.
Enzo Maresca had two spells at City Football Academy, winning three consecutive Premier League 2 titles. In 2022 he returned after taking the reins at Parma and was part of Guardiola's coaching staff, which he left later in the year to coach Leicester, where he won promotion and earned the job he now has at Stamford Bridge.
