Manchester City's newest signing Josko Gvardiol sat down with the club's official media to give his first interview for the Sky Blues. Manchester City have welcomed their second signing of this summer, defender Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian international was announced by the club on Saturday and spoke to the club's website in his first interview as a Cityzen.
Joining the Sky Blues following their treble triumph, the former Leipzig player admitted that he felt his new team deserved their wins, that they played at "a different level" and that he was very happy for them.
The defender had the misfortune of having the face City twice in the Champions League, as although Leipzig held them to a 1-1 draw in Germany, the replay at the Etihad saw City hammer the German team 7-0, with five of those goals coming from Erling Haaland.
“To be honest, everyone wanted to avoid City as a team last season,” admitted Gvardiol. “Unfortunately, we were one of the teams who got City in the Champions League! We knew it is going to be hard, but it was just unbelievable".
The two are by no means strangers, as even before the Norwegian was breaking records with City, he was formidable in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund">Borussia Dortmund, and the Croatian faced him in the German league in 2021-22.
“As for Erling Haaland, we all know what he had on us last season and congratulations to Erling," he continued. "It's nice to have him on my side now, but yeah, last season and the season before in the Bundesliga, he was a tough player - strong, fast and he has everything to become one of the best in the world".
“Luckily I'm on his side now and I don't have to worry about him anymore!” he finished, laughing. The team who are bracing themselves to face the Scandinavian striker next are Arsenal, who face City on Sunday at Wembley to fight for the Community Shield.
