Manchester City were hoping to leave the Etihad with nothing but good news as they demolished Newcastle in a clash that ended 4-0 in favour of the home side, sending them in the top four places in the standings.
But the defending Premier League champions were handed a blow in the closing stages of the game as Erling Haaland was forced off the pitch with a knee injury two minutes from time.
The Norwegian Cyborg sensed an awkward feeling in his joint while pressing on Fabian Schar before throwing himself on the ground to call attention to the Man City medics in the 85th minute. In an attempt to avoid any risk, Guardiola substituted the player immediately.
Haaland was able to walk off the pitch on his own without the help of a stretcher but his injury could represent a major blow for the Catalan boss with just days remaining until a crucial return leg against Real Madrid in the Champions League play-offs.
