This has not been an easy week for Erling Haaland, who learned of the death of Ivar Eggja, a person close to the family whom the Manchester City striker has always considered an uncle. Eggja passed away on Wednesday at the age of 59 and Erling Haaland said goodbye to him on social media.
"You are a legend, Ivar. Words cannot describe how much you meant to me! Words cannot describe how much you will be missed! Thank you for everything, you madman. We will see each other again. Rest in peace, Ivar."
A fact that underlines the special relationship Eggja had with the family is the presence of Haaland's ‘uncle’ at both the striker's unveiling with the Etihad club in 2022 and the Ballon d'Or ceremony. He had also been the best man at Manchester City striker's father Alf-Inge Haaland's wedding.
At the time, Eggja had played a key role in Haaland's quick adaptation to Dortmund. Haaland has now been given permission by Pep Guardiola to take a few days off to say a proper farewell to the close family member, although it is up to the striker himself to decide whether he accepts the offer or tries to pay tribute to Ivar Eggja on the pitch.
It is not known if the striker can continue his excellent start in the Premier League, a competition in which thanks to his last two hat-tricks he has entered the top three with the most hat-tricks in 69 games played.
