"Had there been VAR, we'd have beaten Real Madrid"
Fluminense footballer Felipe Melo talked about a Champions League knockout clash between Real Madrid and Galatasaray in the 2012/13 season. "I'm convinced that had there been VAR, we would have won. Cristiano Ronaldo's goal was offside."

Fluminense player Felipe Melo believes VAR would have changed the course of the Champions League quarter-final between Real Madrid and Galatasaray in April 2013.
"I'm convinced that had there been VAR, we would have won. It's true that we lost 3-0 in the first leg, but there was a clear foul on one of our players in the second goal, but the referee didn't give it. That provided to be decisive," Melo told 'Diretta'.
"In the second leg, we conceded a Cristiano Ronaldo at the beginning which was clearly offside, but still fought back to make it 3-1. We scored three goals in a quarter of an hour and I saw Mourinho thinking 'What the f**k's going on here?'".
Back then, Galatasaray had the likes of Wesley Sneijder, Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Eboue and Alberto Riera. However, they were knocked out of the Champions League in that game against Real Madrid.
The Spanish side counted on Cristiano Ronaldo and had Jose Mourinho as coach. Borussia Dortmund, thanks to four goals from Robert Lewandowski, knocked them out in the semis.
