Raheem Sterling has certainly not impressed in his first two months at Arsenal. The winger arrived at the Emirates on loan from Chelsea in a last-minute signing before the end of the summer transfer window. The forward had described the move to Arsenal as a "perfect fit" for him and an opportunity to "hopefully see some game time and make my mark.”
However, with 8 appearances and only two goal contributions - both in the 5-1 Carabao Cup win against Bolton Wanderers - to show for it, it is safe to say that Sterling has not lived up to fans' expectations. In fact, former Premier League star Stan Collymore has come out to label the ex-Man City man as the worst signing of the campaign so far.
“He came in and said he was going to give the club his best work, but that hasn’t happened," the ex-striker told 'the Metro'. "He’s arguably stunk the place out so far and he’s definitely one of the flops of the season having promised to do his best work at Arsenal. He’s an experienced player who has won everything there is to win, he was expected to push the dressing room up another level and he hasn’t done that.”
Sterling was not the only Arsenal signing Collymore was disappointed with. In the same interview, the 53-year-old spoke on Riccardo Calafiori, who joined the Gunners after his starring role at Euro 2024 with Italy. Speaking on the defender, the former Liverpool player said: “Arsenal spent £42 million on Riccardo Calafiori which has been a mildly disappointing move so far. He’s had a couple of injuries, but he was meant to come in and be the man.”
