Huachipato informed their fans via social media that the match against Gremio would not take place on 9 May as planned. Gremio had no choice but to reschedule all their matches for the month, including the Copa Libertadores group stage, due to the floods in Brazil.
"We have been officially notified by CONMEBOL about the suspension of our match against Gremio. This decision is based on the state of emergency in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and especially the city of Porto Alegre due to heavy rains and flooding," the club said.
Huachipato also expressed its deep solidarity "with the victims and with all the members of the Brazilian club Gremio". "We send a lot of strength and express our support in this difficult moment," Huachipato added.
Both clubs will have to find a new date for the match, although that is secondary. What is important now is the situation in the country as a result of the heavy rains, which have already claimed 95 lives and have left 131 others missing.
