Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni admitted that he is "happy" with Brazil's qualification to the last 16 and that, if Argentina do not win the World Cup, he would "obviously" prefer a South American team to win it.
"I'm happy for Brazil to go through, anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong. If Argentina don't make it, I'd prefer a South American team to win, of course," Scaloni admitted at Monday's pre-match press conference ahead of the match against Poland, where they will meet Robert Lewandowski.
"Poland not only has players who are strong up front, but also has very good technical players, fast players.... There are only three qualified teams, so when I said it was a tough group, there was going to be something at stake until the last game, nothing has changed. It's what we expected.
"We come here with an important boost to our morale and that will help us to know that this is the way forward. In this national team there is always the feeling that every game is important. Now, we have in our favour that if we win we'll go through to the next round," said Scaloni, who did not want to make comparisons with the Polish striker and Leo Messi.
"It's a pleasure to be able to watch him up close like any fan. The question is tricky, if he has Messi's level? You have to enjoy him, you don't have to compare him," he said.
