FC Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski spoke to 'Le Parisien' about his good performance at Bayern Munich between 2020 and 2021: "I deserved the Ballon d'Or in 2020". He further explained that cancelling it "was disappointing" for the footballer. "That's how I feel. If you win everything with the team, if you score so many very important goals, you can think like that," he added.
On the other hand, the Pole analysed his relationship with the goal: "I don't know what percentage that obsession represents today, but it's still there. It's a good drug, because you always want more, you always want to score". Although he also explained that not scoring "is less frustrating" for him now.
"At heart, I still have the feeling that goals give me more strength. You can't forget that feeling that you live for goals, that you were born to score goals," he added.
On another note, the Pole was not entirely satisfied with what he has achieved in his career so far: "On the one hand, I'm very proud of what I've done, but on the other hand I tell myself that there is still work to do.
"My secret is always the mind, love and passion. When I wake up in the morning, I don't feel any pain, I feel good physically and, when I compare myself with my teammates, I see that I am still at the top level. I continue to reap the benefits of the way I have been preparing for years. If I want to continue at this level, I know I have to give my all in training," he explained.
Lewandowski also analysed the Champions League quarter-final: "At that level, when you make those kind of mistakes and bad decisions, it's very difficult to compare yourself with teams like PSG. In the first game, we were unbelievable and then.... If you compare yourself to a team and you lose because the opponent was better, you can accept it differently. But in this game, it's too difficult to compare yourself when you make mistakes like this at this level.
"I like the development of the midfielders, like Vitinha. They have a couple of young attackers who have improved a lot. Their transfer policy has changed a little bit and I think PSG have the future ahead of them, even if Kylian leaves. I think this club will still be in the Champions League and will always be dangerous for all the teams in Europe," he said of the Parisian project.
On Mbappe, he said: "If you compare him to other players, he speaks a different language. He is showing youngsters that football is not the only important thing. He is also an example in terms of personality. He's a very intelligent guy who is very clear about how he wants to do things. He keeps his feet on the ground. I sensed that when I saw him for the first time a few years ago. I was impressed. He's a new model for French football.
"When I see him, I always have a very good feeling. With Kylian, you can talk about a lot of things. If you talk to him, you know he's a very serious guy, with him the conversation always goes in the right direction. Although he is young, he already has a lot of knowledge," he concluded.
