In the summer of 2021, Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United. The club where his career initally took off from before reaching his peak in his time at Real Madrid. A €15m fee was agreed between United and Juventus for the transfer, though disagreements with manager Erik Ten Hag, as well as executives, meant that his time back to Old Trafford only lasted a season and a half. In an unpublished section of his talk with Rio Ferdinand this week, dwells on what happened in that period of time.
"When I came back to United.I was very happy. I was one of the best scorers. I did unbelievable things with the club. My first season with 37, I was the third best scorer of the league. I scored all the group stage. I scored every game. Even in the league, I scored 17 goals or 18 goals. I did amazing!," said the Portuguese in the short preview uploaded by Rio on his socials.
The earlier part of the conversation between the two ex-United players was released recently on the Portuguese's YouTube channel. However, this unreleased part will officially premier on 'Rio Ferdinand Presents' - program founded by the former defender, where he covers news circulating within the sporting world, but first and foremost within the realm of the Premier League. It is likely that there was a set agreement to share a preview of the content, as a means to boost it among Ronaldo's followers, thus maximising viewership.
In his time back at Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo counted 27 goals - 5 from the penalty spot - and 5 assists in 54 appearances. He ended up leaving the United after taking part in a controversial interview with Piers Morgan, in which he criticised the club's culture and infrastructure - which he deemed to be out of date for the standards of modern football.
