Mathys Tel, who has scored five goals and provided one assist in just 236 minutes with Bayern Munich this season, is gradually establishing himself at the Bavarian giants.
Having arrived in 2022 from Stade Rennais for €40 million, the 18-year-old striker is proving that he has what it takes to become one of the best strikers in the world.
However, for the time being, the man who succeeded Lewandowski up front at Bayern prefers to take things one step at a time.
In an interview with 'lemédiacarré', Tel spoke about his decision to take the number 39 shirt rather than Bayern's No.9: "I didn't want to take Lewandowski's No.9 without having proved anything. I wanted to earn it. It's a great challenge and a great motivation."
Earlier this week, the scorer of a goal against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League also spoke of his ambitions in the columns of 'L'Equipe': "I'm at Bayern Munich, a club I've admired since I was a child, and my dream is one day to be FC Bayern's No.9. My aim is to score 15 goals and 5 assists this season. This club have awakened a certain ambition in me."
