Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo said on Thursday that scoring the 900th goal of his career was 'exciting' and defended that, although it may seem like an 'easy' figure, it is not and requires a lot of daily work and preparation. "It was an exciting goal for me. It's a round number. It may look like an easy number, but it's not. It's a lot of daily work, a lot of consistency, a lot of preparation," he told 'Sport TV' in Lisbon after Portugal's 2-1 Nations League win over Croatia.
Cristiano recalled that he is already 39 years old and, for that reason, he has to be ‘very focused so that things go well’. "When these records happen, I get excited because I give value to what I do," confessed the player, who felt 'freer' after a European Championship in which he failed to score a goal.
For some of his teammates in the ‘Quinas’, Ronaldo's 900th goal is also a historic milestone. "With the rhythm, with the years, with the games, sometimes we forget and it doesn't hurt, from time to time, to be reminded that we play alongside someone who did what he did and continues to do. It's special for all of us," Ruben Dias told reporters.
For his part, Diogo Dalot highlighted the Madeira striker's 'ability' to 'always be trying to improve' and 'his passion for playing for the national team'. "I would like him to be in the World Cup," he confessed.
