Netherlands striker Memphis Depay expressed on Sunday the "confidence" he feels in Ronald Koeman and remarked that he still has to grow in his individual performances, despite his improvement in the last match against Austria, a 2-3 defeat and a goal of his own, four short of Robin Van Persie's all-time record of 50 goals.
"I feel their trust and I want to repay them. It is appreciated. If I reach my level, I have no doubts. I give everything for the team. The coach's confidence is important," said the striker, who has taken a self-critical look at his first three games in the tournament, all of them starts, with a goal in the most recent one against the Austria on Tuesday.
"I agree that it was my best game. In the first one, if I had scored a goal, it could have been too. It could have been better, but I am satisfied. I won the duels. It's good to have scored a goal," said the striker, who is not just a finisher, as he recalled, but who "likes to have the ball", combine and launch deep passes at the speed of his teammates.
"I feel better after having played 90 minutes already," continued the player, who had not played a full game, either for club or country, since 31 January. "I needed minutes, more games. I'm also a player who can decide a game in the last 20 minutes, when the opponents are more tired," he said.
