Spain's second captain Rodri Hernandez showed on Monday the mentality with which Spain are approaching Euro 2024, without setting "very high expectations", with "great enthusiasm" and focusing on each match with the aim of being competitive to go far.
"We're very excited, but we're going to take it one step at a time, we don't want to set our sights too high," he said, while stressing that they are looking at each day "being competitive" and spoke of the importance of "feeling the shirt, which represents so much" at this Euro 2024, which Spain kick off on Saturday 15th June against Croatia in Berlin.
"It doesn't matter where we are from, we all represent a single colour. Spain will do everything possible and I'm convinced that we will play a great role in this European Championship," he added, speaking to the Spanish media from the team hotel in Donaueschingen, where the internationals arrived on Sunday night.
Rodri is one of the great leaders of the national team dressing room and is the second most capped player, with 50 caps, after Alvaro Morata. "I try to give a sense of calm and everything that can make us improve, especially to the young people who are coming here to face such important tournaments. I have a different personality and I always try to bring that to the group", he acknowledged.
