Since the start of the season, Rodrygo Goes has been feeling a certain discomfort. He was not amused to be relegated to the background when Kylian Mbappe signed for Real Madrid, as the Frenchman's powerful attacking output put him at the forefront of the social media mentions of an attack that includes the likes of Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham. The former Santos player also feels part of this high quality squad and thinks that he should have been on the list of 30 candidates for the Ballon d'Or.
He already suggested it with an Instagram story in which he shared several pictures of himself posing with trophies next to a laughing emoticon and confirmed it in an interview with 'ESPN': "I posted a little bit of a joke. Now, there's not much to say. Everybody knows my outrage. Everyone has supported me, both in the national team and at Real Madrid. People sent me messages".
"I was upset, I think I deserved it. I don't want to belittle the players who are there, but I think I had a place among the 30. It was a surprise, but there's not much I can do, I'm not the one who decides these things," he expanded. He also boasted about his role at Real Madrid: "Often, I'm just filling the gap that's missing up front. Is there someone missing there? Rodrygo, is there someone missing on the right? Rodrygo. Is there someone missing as a No 9? Rodrygo. That's it. It might bother me a bit, but I'm a team player.
Speaking about his development at Madrid, he said: "I arrived as a boy and, today, I am a man. I arrived very shy, with a lot of embarrassment. I got used to it with the help of all my team-mates, of all the people at the club, who made me feel at home. After a time of adaptation, which is normal, I feel completely at home. I'm more mature and I'm very happy. I'm thinking about winning all the titles I've already won several times. It's the best club in the world and that's what motivates me, to be at the level of the best club in the world every day. That's why I get up every day to train and to be better.
