Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois praised Diego Pablo Simeone and assured that he would like to see him coaching in another country. In an interview on former defender Rio Ferdinand's podcast, the Belgian goalkeeper recalled his time at Atletico Madrid and the influence the Argentine coach had on his career.
“I think he brings a special character and talks a lot with the team. I remember that before a final he would sit you down, along with Mono Burgos, his assistant coach, and tell you that you were the best. 'Tomorrow you're going to smash it' and you would go to bed thinking about it,” Courtois said.
“On match day he would play you a video of a movie with a speech, he would always find these things that made you get something out of you. The players were going above their level, and they could do that because tactically he was also very good. He knew how to activate us," he added.
"He's a special coach. I think he always finds a way to reinvent himself, because he's been there so many years and he's still great. I would love to see him coaching in another country, but I imagine he is happy there,” he argued.
