Matchday 13 of the Premier League kicks off with a duel between two teams with totally different realities. Brighton, who have a captivating and attractive style of play, are 5th, out of the Champions League qualification places, but with the same 22 points as Arsenal and Chelsea. On the other hand, Southampton are bottom of the table, with 4 points and a record of 10 defeats, 1 draw and just 1 win.
As if this were not enough, the Saints, on their return to the English top flight, are the worst team both at home and away, where they have yet to score and have lost all their games. Danny Welbeck will be looking to take advantage of their opponents' poor run of form after three consecutive games without a goal.
Despite this, at 34 years of age, the English striker is living a second youth. He is the Seagulls' top scorer with 6 goals and has also provided 2 assists. His presence in the starting eleven of young Fabian Hurzeler is crucial, being the player with the most minutes behind him (1061). He is Brighton's biggest offensive contributor and a specialist in breaking the deadlock (3 of those 6 have been his team's opener).
Welbeck certainly has a love affair with the goal and in this first part of the season he is proving it. He has already equalled his goalscoring tally at Arsenal (32), albeit with 13 more games. He has also surpassed those scored at his other big club in England, Manchester United, where he managed 29 in 142 appearances. He is just four goals short of his best scoring year with the Gunners (10) and six short of his best tally since he became a professional footballer (12, in 2011-12, with United). The challenge is there for the Brighton striker.
